Selina Wamucii provides high quality Kenya macadamia oil to the local and export market. We source the fresh Kenya macadamia oil raw materials from family growers in the country.
Kenya macadamia oil comes from the macadamia nut tree (Ternifolia F. muell.). The tree is one of the emerging premium sources of income for its produce like nuts and processed oil fetches high demand year-in-year-out around the world. Now widespread in Brazil, Africa and other parts of the tropics, the tree’s native place is Western Australia. In fact, the name comes from John Macadamia, a 19th century Australian statesman and botanist. The first time that large-scale processing of the oil happened in the world was in 1956 courtesy of Mauna Loa.
Macadamia oil comes with a him percentage of monounsaturated fat which is the good type of plant fat that can go to as high as 78 percent of the daily requirements. The oil also gives each person who takes it 120 calories without unwanted carbohydrates. With its Omega 3 acid, the product is as good as eating fish for preventing heart disease. Its vitamin K content allows the proper clotting of blood after bleeding. The vitamin E component in the oil assists the body to remove toxins. This vitamin is the key reason many beauty products consist macadamia oil to remove acne. The oil is also great for curing skin inflammation and treating asthma.
We source the raw materials for macadamia oil in the highlands of Central Kenya. Our specific sources include Kiambu, Murang’a, Thika, Embu and Meru and the list is growing each year. Our family growers plant at least ten trees per acre of land, interspersed with other fruit-trees, like avocado. We only deal with farmers who have Good Agricultural Practices (Kenya GAP) certificates. This means that the processed product comes from uncontaminated, residue-free nuts.
We process macadamia oil by first transporting the harvest to the packing shed and then into the processing plant. We de-husk the pericarps of the fruits to reveal the equally hard shells inside. We then heat the shells in temperatures of below 135° Celsius to reduce the moisture content to as low as 1.5 percent. The moisture level stands at 25 percent at harvest time.
The next step of processing Kenya macadamia oil involves cracking the hard shells using cracker machines. These are usually steel rolling equipment that shell the nuts by friction. Though mechanical, the process is very well guided so that the kernel inside still stay intact after outer shelling happens. After removing kernels, we then sort them from foreign dirt and shell particles. The final step before distilling the oil is grading the kernels according to size, health and general appearance. Grade 1 goes into the market as whole nuts whereas Grade 2 serves as the oil-producing nuts or for enriching chocolate and other commercial foods.
We cold-press Kenya macadamia nuts to release the oil. The kernels from the above processes first go into a hydraulic press and then into distilling equipment. Pressing removes the remaining 1.5 percent of moisture that settles separately from the oil content in the distiller. Our product is 100 percent extra-virgin as there is virtually no additive.
We pack Kenya macadamia oil in transparent airtight bottles that reveal the general condition of the clear liquid inside. We provide the oil in custom sizes ranging from 250 milliliters to 1 liter. Each of the bottles features clear labeling indicating the time of manufacture and the composition of the product. We then put the bottles into cartons that are well sealed to prevent damage.
We transport the Kenya macadamia oil under cool dry interior environments of custom vehicles to the airport. You can expect the airtight, well-sealed packages in a day or two after dispatch depending on your part of the world.
