Description
Stellaria irazuensis (also called Irazu Chickweed, Irazu Starwort, and Irazu Stitchwort, among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant in the Caryophyllaceae family. It is native to Costa Rica, and is found in moist habitats, such as marshes, ditches, and the edges of ponds and streams. It is an annual with small, white flowers and narrow, pointed leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Stellaria irazuensis can be propagated by seed or division. Seeds should be sown in spring or autumn in a cold frame and should germinate in 1-3 months at 15°C. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out in the summer. Division in spring or autumn. Very easy, larger clumps can be replanted direct into their permanent positions, though it is best to pot up smaller clumps and grow them on in a cold frame until they are rooting well. Plant them out in the spring.
