Description
Minuartia geniculata (also called Knotted Sandwort, among many other common names) is an annual herbaceous plant with a slender, erect stem. It is native to Europe, Asia, and North America. It is found in dry, sandy habitats, such as dunes, sandstone cliffs, and rocky slopes.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Flower of Minuartia geniculata is white, star-shaped and has five petals. The seed is small, round and black. Seedlings are small and have two cotyledons.
Cultivation and Propagation
Minuartia geniculata can be propagated by seed or division. To propagate by seed, sow the seeds in a well-drained soil mix and keep the soil moist. Division is best done in the spring or early summer. Dig up the plant and carefully divide the clumps of roots and replant the divisions in a well-drained soil mix.
