Acanthocephalus amplexifolius (also called 'Prickly Thistle', among many other common names) is a perennial herbaceous plant native to the Mediterranean region and found in dry grasslands and rocky areas. It has a basal rosette of spiny leaves and a single stem with a single flower head. The flower head is composed of pink-purple flowers with spiny bracts.
