It is a small tree, growing up to 8m tall, with a trunk diameter of up to 20cm. It is native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, and is found in the lowland forests of Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. It prefers moist, shady habitats.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Monanthotaxis oligandra is a white or pinkish-white, five-petaled flower with a yellow center. The seed is a small, black, ovoid seed. The seedlings are slender, with long, narrow leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Monanthotaxis oligandra can be propagated by seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in a well-drained potting mix and kept moist. Cuttings should be taken from healthy, mature plants and rooted in a potting mix. Both methods should be done in a warm, humid environment.
