In Togo, Chicken farming is the most common type of poultry owing to the relative ease and low cost of raising them. In comparison to other domestic animals, chickens have become prevalent throughout the cuisine of Togo cultures.

Chicken typical includes low fat in the meat itself, excluding castrated roosters. The fat is highly consecrated on the skin. A 100g serving and 31g of baked chicken breasts contain 4g of fat and 31g of protein, compared to 10g of fats and 27g of protein for the same portion of broiled, lean skirt steak.

Chicken meat can be prepared in a vast range of ways including baking, barbecuing, boiling, grilling and frying, among many others depending on its purpose. Chicken meat provides vitamins mainly from the B complex, including niacin or vitamin B3, which is essential for the metabolism of sugars and fats in the body, as well as for maintaining healthy cells. It also contains minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus potassium, and zinc.

Chicken farming in Togo was mostly done in subsistence scale now it is widely practised throughout the whole country on a large scale.
