Description
Macromitrium xenizon (also called 'Xenizon's Hair-cap Moss', among many other common names) is a small, light green moss with forked leaves. It is native to Europe, Asia, and North America, and is commonly found in moist, shady areas such as forests, woodlands, and meadows.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Macromitrium xenizon has small, white flowers with four petals. Its seeds are small and black. The seedlings have a single, oval-shaped leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Macromitrium xenizon can be propagated by division of the rhizomes. It prefers moist, well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade. It is drought tolerant and can tolerate temperatures down to -20°F. It is best to fertilize it in the spring with a balanced fertilizer.
