Macromitrium echinatum (also called Spiny Haircap Moss, among many other common names) is a species of moss in the Macromitriaceae family. It is found in Europe and Asia, where it grows in moist and shady places, such as on wet rocks, tree trunks, and moist soil. It has a thin, leafy thallus with a greenish-brown color and a spiny texture.

The flower of Macromitrium echinatum is a small yellow cup-shaped flower with six petals. The seed is a small black seed with a hard outer shell. The seedlings are small, round, and green with two leaves.
