Description
Pleurothallis platypetala (also called Pleurothallis, among many other common names) is a small epiphytic orchid with a single, thin, erect stem. It is native to Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, and is found in cloud forests at elevations of 1000-2000 meters. It is found growing on trees and rocks in humid, mossy areas.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Pleurothallis platypetala is small and white, with a yellowish-green lip. The seed is small and round. The seedlings are small and delicate, with small, round leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Pleurothallis platypetala can be propagated by division or by seed. It prefers to be grown in bright, indirect light and in well-draining soil. Water the plant when the top inch of soil is dry, and fertilize it every two weeks during the growing season.
