Description
Platystele enervis (also called Weak-stemmed Platystele, among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant in the family Gesneriaceae. It is a herbaceous perennial, up to 30 cm tall, with opposite, ovate to elliptic leaves, up to 8 cm long. It is native to tropical Africa, from Sierra Leone to Angola, and is found in marshes and wet grasslands.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Platystele enervis has small, white, bell-shaped flowers with yellow anthers. The seeds are small, ovoid and black in color. The seedlings are small and have a single, oval-shaped leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Platystele enervis is a small epiphytic orchid that is native to Central and South America. It can be grown in a pot or mounted on a slab of cork or tree fern. It prefers bright, indirect light and should be watered regularly. Propagation is done by division of the pseudobulbs or by seed.
