Description
Oberonia longispica (also called Longispica Oberonia, among many other common names) is a small epiphytic orchid species found in the tropical rainforests of India, China, Thailand, and Vietnam. It has a single, thin, upright stem with a few leaves and many small, white flowers with yellow lips. It grows on trees and rocks in humid, shady habitats.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Oberonia longispica has small, white flowers that are borne in clusters on the end of the stem. The flowers have five petals and are about 1 cm in diameter. The seed is small, round and black. The seedlings have long, narrow leaves and a single stem.
Cultivation and Propagation
Oberonia longispica can be propagated by division or by seed. It prefers moist, well-drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded position. It is frost hardy and can tolerate temperatures down to -5°C (23°F).
