Description
Cyrtochilum ixioides (also called 'Ixioides Cyrtochilum', among many other common names) is a species of orchid found in the tropical forests of Central and South America. It has a single, thin, upright stem that can reach up to 30 cm in height, with a single, large, bright yellow flower. It grows in humid, shady areas, and can be found in the understory of tropical rainforests.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Cyrtochilum ixioides is small and white with a yellow-green lip. The seed is a small, round, black seed. The seedlings are small and have a single leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Cyrtochilum ixioides is an epiphytic orchid native to Madagascar. It prefers a warm, humid environment with bright, indirect light. The plant should be grown in a well-draining, slightly acidic soil mix that is high in organic matter. Water the plant regularly, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Propagate by division or by seed.
