Description
Bulbophyllum torquatum (also called Torqued Bulbophyllum, among many other common names) is an epiphytic orchid species native to China, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar. It is found in humid forests at elevations of 500–1000 m. It has a short, creeping rhizome with short, cylindrical pseudobulbs and a single, apical leaf. The flowers are small and yellowish-green in color.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Bulbophyllum torquatum has small, white flowers with yellow anthers that are borne in clusters. The seeds are small, black and shiny. The seedlings have long, thin stems and small, oval-shaped leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Bulbophyllum torquatum is a slow-growing evergreen shrub that can be propagated by cuttings or by division. It prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. It can be propagated by taking cuttings of the stems in spring or summer and rooting them in moist, well-drained soil. Division of the plant can also be done in spring or summer. It is best to water the plant regularly and fertilize it with a balanced fertilizer once a month during the growing season.
