Description
Tetraria pilisepala (also called Tufted Tussock, among many other common names) is a small, perennial grass native to temperate regions of Europe and Asia. It has a low-growing habit, with thin, wiry leaves and small, white flowers. It is commonly found in moist, shady habitats, such as woodlands and meadows.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flowers of Tetraria pilisepala are small, white and star-shaped. The seeds are tiny, black and glossy. The seedlings are small, green and have two cotyledons.
Cultivation and Propagation
Cultivation and propagation of Tetraria pilisepala is best done through division of the rhizomes. The rhizomes should be planted in a well-draining soil mix and kept moist but not soggy. The plant should be kept in a warm, sunny location and fertilized regularly. Propagation can also be done through seed, but this is more difficult and less successful.
