Description
Scleria racemosa (also called Racemose nut-sedge, among many other common names) is a perennial herbaceous plant native to tropical Africa and Madagascar. It grows in wet soils, such as along the edges of rivers and streams, and in swamps and marshes.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Scleria racemosa is a small, white, star-shaped flower with five petals and a yellow center. The seed of Scleria racemosa is a small, black, round seed with a hard outer shell. The seedlings of Scleria racemosa are small, green, and have a single, oval-shaped leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Scleria racemosa can be propagated by seed or division. Seeds should be sown in a well-drained soil mix and kept moist until germination. Division should be done in early spring or late fall when the plant is dormant. Carefully dig up the plant and divide it into smaller clumps, then replant in a well-draining soil mix.
