Description
Hypolytrum stemonifolium (also called Water Hyacinth, among many other common names) is a perennial aquatic plant native to tropical and subtropical South America. It has long, spongy and bulbous, triangular leaves with long, thin petioles. The leaves are 10–20 cm across, and float above the water surface. It is found in slow-moving water bodies, such as ponds, marshes, and wetlands.
Cultivation and Propagation
Hypolytrum stemonifolium is a perennial herb native to the Caribbean and Central and South America. It can be propagated from seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in a well-drained, sandy potting mix and kept moist. Cuttings should be taken from semi-hardwood stems and planted in a moist, well-drained potting mix. Both seed and cuttings should be kept in a warm, bright location.
