Description
Anaphalis rhododactyla (also called Rhododactyla anaphalis, among many other common names) is an annual herb that grows up to 40 cm tall. It has a branched stem and its leaves are ovate-lanceolate, with serrated margins. It is native to Central Asia and is found in dry, rocky habitats.
Uses & Benefits
Anaphalis rhododactyla is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and landscaping. It is also used as a medicinal plant to treat skin ailments, as well as to reduce inflammation and pain.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Anaphalis rhododactyla is a yellow-orange, with a single yellow anther. The seeds are small and black, and the seedlings are small and green with long, narrow leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Anaphalis rhododactyla can be propagated by seed or division. Seeds should be sown in spring in a cold frame. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on in the greenhouse for at least their first winter. Plant them out into their permanent positions in late spring or early summer, after the last expected frosts. Division in spring or autumn. Larger clumps can be replanted direct into their permanent positions, though it is best to pot up smaller clumps and grow them on in a cold frame until they are rooting well. Plant them out in the spring.
