Description
Ageratina calaminthaefolia (also called Calaminthaefolia Ageratina, Calaminthaefolia Ageratina, and Calaminthaefolia Ageratina, among many other common names) is an herbaceous perennial native to Europe and Asia. It has long, narrow leaves with serrated edges and small yellow flowers. It grows in temperate climates in open woods, thickets, and dry areas.
Uses & Benefits
Ageratina calaminthaefolia is used in traditional medicine to treat digestive issues, such as stomachaches, and to reduce inflammation. It is also used as a natural dye for fabrics.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Ageratina calaminthaefolia is yellow with a yellow center, and the seed is a small, black, round seed. The seedlings are small and have a rosette-like shape.
Cultivation and Propagation
Ageratina calaminthaefolia can be propagated by seed or division. The seeds should be sown in early spring in a cold frame or directly outdoors. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out in the summer. Division in spring or autumn is also possible. Larger clumps can be replanted direct into their permanent positions, though it is best to pot up smaller clumps and grow them on in a cold frame until they are rooting well. Plant them out in the spring.
