Description

Acourtia tomentosa (also called Desert Peony, among many other common names) is a perennial herb native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It grows in sandy soils in deserts, chaparral, and grasslands. It has a woody base and grows up to 1 m tall. Its leaves are gray-green and covered with short, white hairs. Its flowers are white, pink, or purple and bloom from April to June.
