The top story related to macadamia in 2023 was the fall of prices in April, amid oversupply. Analysts announced that consumer prices were heading towards R218 ($12) per kg in the course of the year. This is even as producer prices were falling by as much as $3.25 per kilo from the 2021-22 period.
Prices in supermarkets and online stores
Current prices: Lowest-R333 ($17.80) per kg. Highest-R110 per 200 g or R550 ($29.38) per kg.
In late 2023, online stores were selling raw macadamia nuts from at least R333 ($17.80) per kg. The maximum prices has been hovering around R62.99 per 100 grams or R623 ($33.32) per kg.
Supermarkets such as Checkers Hypermarket lured customers with their promo deals of R340 per kilo or R3.40 per 100g in the course of 2023.

Branded nuts from various companies such as Smartbite and Pecan cost twice those of conventional packages. The nuts are available in small packages of 32g and 200g.
