Description
Smilax lutescens (also called Yellow Greenbrier, among many other common names) is a woody, perennial, evergreen vine native to the southeastern United States. It has large, leathery leaves and small, yellow flowers. It grows in moist, shady areas such as woodlands, swamps, and thickets.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Smilax lutescens has small, white flowers in axillary umbels. Its seeds are small, round and black. The seedlings are slender and have a single cotyledon.
Cultivation and Propagation
Smilax lutescens can be propagated by seed or division. Seeds should be sown in spring or summer in a well-drained, sandy soil. Division should be done in spring or autumn. The plant should be grown in full sun or partial shade and in moist, well-drained soil.
