Description
Hoffmannia australis (also called Hoffmannia, among many other common names) is a shrub native to Central and South America. It has a dense, rounded crown and its leaves are alternate, elliptic-oblong, and pointed at the apex. It is found in tropical and subtropical forests, often in areas of secondary growth.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Hoffmannia australis has small, white, star-shaped flowers, with five petals and a yellow center. The seeds are small, round and black. The seedlings are small, with thin stems and oval-shaped leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Hoffmannia australis can be propagated by seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in spring in a well-drained soil and kept moist. Cuttings should be taken in late spring or early summer and rooted in a sandy soil. The plants should be grown in a sunny location and should be protected from strong winds.
