Description
Restio saroclados (also called Sarocladium reed, among many other common names) is a species of perennial grass-like plant native to South Africa. It grows in wetland areas, such as marshes, swamps, and along the edges of streams and rivers. It has long, thin, yellow-green leaves and small, yellow-green flowers.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Restio saroclados has small, greenish-white flowers that are arranged in a dense spike. Its seeds are small, dark brown and round. The seedlings have long, slender stems and small, narrow leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Restio saroclados is a hardy, drought-tolerant shrub that can be grown in a wide range of soils. It can be propagated from seed or cuttings. Seed should be sown in a well-drained seedbed and lightly covered with soil. Cuttings should be taken from semi-hardwood growth and placed in a well-drained rooting medium. Once established, Restio saroclados requires little maintenance.
