Description
Restio rupicola (also called Rock-loving reed, among many other common names) is a species of perennial grass-like plant native to South Africa. It grows in wetland areas, such as marshes, swamps, and along the edges of streams and rivers. It has long, thin, yellow-green leaves and small, yellow-green flowers.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Restio rupicola has small, greenish-white flowers that are arranged in a dense spike. Its seeds are small, dark brown and round. The seedlings have long, slender stems and small, narrow leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Restio rupicola is a fast-growing, evergreen shrub that can reach up to 1.5m in height. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Propagation is best done by seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in spring or early summer in a well-drained soil mix and kept moist until germination. Cuttings should be taken in late spring or early summer and planted in a well-drained soil mix. Keep the cuttings moist until they have rooted.
