Description
Potamogeton trichoides (also called Hair-like Pondweed, among many other common names) is an aquatic plant found in shallow water in lakes, ponds, and slow-moving streams. It has a reddish stem and bright green leaves that are usually oval in shape. Native to Europe, it grows in a variety of habitats including shallow water, mud, and sand.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Potamogeton trichoides has small, white flowers that appear in the summer. The seeds are small and black, and the seedlings have two or three narrow leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Potamogeton trichoides is a hardy, evergreen perennial that grows in clumps. It is best grown in full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil. Propagation is by seed or division in spring or autumn.
