Description
Potamogeton gramineus (also called Grass-leaved Pondweed, among many other common names) is a submerged aquatic plant native to the Americas and Europe. It has a creeping stem, with leaves that are linear in shape, and a short, blunt tip. It grows in shallow water, in ponds, lakes, and slow-moving streams.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Potamogeton gramineus has small, white flowers with four petals and four sepals. The seeds are small, dark brown and oval-shaped. The seedlings have a single, long, narrow leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Potamogeton gramineus can be propagated by seed or division. It prefers moist to wet soil and full sun to partial shade. It is tolerant of a wide range of soil types and pH levels. It can be propagated by dividing the rhizomes in the spring or fall. It can also be propagated by seed, which should be sown in the spring in a moist, well-drained soil.
