Description
Polytrichum parvum (also called Small Haircap Moss, among many other common names) is a species of moss found in North America, Europe, and Asia. It grows in moist, shady areas, often in woodlands, and has a light green color. Its stems are up to 10 cm tall and the leaves are up to 5 mm long. The leaves are arranged in a spiral pattern, and the capsules are erect and curved.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Polytrichum parvum is a small, greenish-brown spikelet with a single stamen. The seed is a small, round, dark brown spore. The seedlings are small, green and have a single leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Polytrichum parvum can be propagated by spores or vegetative division. Cultivation requires a well-drained, acidic soil in a partially shaded area. It is best to keep the soil moist but not soggy. The plant should be kept in temperatures between 10-20 degrees Celsius.
