Description
Yushania schmidiana (also called Chinese mountain bamboo, among many other common names) is a species of bamboo native to East Asia. It is a clumping bamboo, growing in dense clumps with stems up to 8 m tall and 2 cm in diameter. It is found in moist forests, along streams, and in other areas with high humidity. It is also found in China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.

Yushania schmidiana is used as an ornamental plant, for erosion control, and as a source of paper pulp.

Yushania schmidiana has small, white flowers with yellow anthers. The seeds are small, black and round. The seedlings are thin and have long, narrow leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Yushania schmidiana is a perennial grass that grows in clumps and can reach a height of 2-3 feet. It prefers moist, well-drained soils in full sun to partial shade. Propagation is done by division of the clumps or by seed. Seeds should be sown in spring or early summer in a well-prepared seedbed.
