                        Description
                        
                            Puccinellia howellii (also called Howell's alkaligrass, among many other common names) is an annual grass species native to the Arctic and Subarctic regions. It is a low-growing plant with short, stiff stems and narrow leaves. It is found in wet meadows, wet tundra, and other moist habitats.                        
                     
                                
                                    
                        Uses & Benefits
                        
                            Puccinellia howellii is used as a forage crop for grazing animals, as well as a soil stabilizer and erosion control. It is also used as a cover crop and as a source of nectar for bees.                        
                     
                                
                                                    
                        Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
                        
                            Puccinellia howellii has small, yellow flowers with three petals. Its seeds are small, dark brown and oval-shaped.                         Cultivation and Propagation
                        
                            Puccinellia howellii is an easy-to-grow perennial grass that prefers full sun and well-drained soil. It can be propagated from seed or by division of the root clumps. Seeds should be sown in late spring or early summer and should be kept moist until germination.
