Castilleja plagiotoma (also called prostrate Indian paintbrush, among many other common names) is an annual herbaceous plant native to the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. It grows in dry, rocky soils in open, sunny areas and is often found in desert scrub and grassland habitats.
