Description
Phaeoceros minutus (also called 'Small Phaeoceros', among many other common names) is a species of liverwort native to Europe and North Africa. It is a small, yellow-green plant with a thallus that is divided into small, rounded lobes. It grows in moist, shady habitats, often on the bark of trees.
Uses & Benefits
Phaeoceros minutus is used in traditional medicine for treating skin diseases, as well as for its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. It is also used as an ornamental plant in gardens.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Phaeoceros minutus flowers are small and inconspicuous, usually greenish and yellowish in color. The seeds are small, yellowish-brown, and have a short, thin, papery covering. Seedlings are small and have a single, large, kidney-shaped leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Phaeoceros minutus is a moss that can be propagated by spore sowing or division. It prefers moist, shady conditions and should be grown in a well-drained soil. It can be propagated by division of the clumps in spring or autumn. Spores should be sown in spring or summer on a moist, sterile, peat-based compost and kept in a warm, humid environment.
