Description
Metzgeria macrospora (also called Large-Spored Metzgeria, among many other common names) is a species of liverwort native to India. It is a small, thallose liverwort with a creeping habit, and its thalli are up to 1 cm wide. It grows in moist, shady places in forests, and is found at elevations of 1,000-2,000 m.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Metzgeria macrospora is a small, greenish-brown, unisexual flower. The seed is a small, dark brown, spore-bearing capsule. The seedlings are small, green, and have a single leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Metzgeria macrospora can be propagated by spore sowing or by division of the thalli. Spores should be sown on a moistened, nutrient-poor, acid substrate. The substrate should be kept moist and in a shaded, humid environment. Division of the thalli can be done by carefully separating the thalli and replanting them in moist, nutrient-poor, acid soil.
Where to Find Metzgeria macrospora
Metzgeria macrospora can be found in the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, Africa, and Australia.
