Description
Sonerila pulchella (also called Indian Pigeonberry, among many other common names) is a small, evergreen, perennial herb. It is native to India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, and is found in tropical and subtropical forests. It grows in moist, shady places, such as along streams and in ravines.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Sonerila pulchella is a small, white, star-shaped flower with yellow anthers. The seed is a small, black, round seed with a slightly rough surface. The seedlings are small, green and have a single pair of leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Sonerila pulchella can be propagated by seed or division. It prefers moist, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. It can tolerate some drought, but will flower best with regular watering. Deadheading spent flowers will encourage additional blooming.
