Description
Blakea guatemalensis (also called Guatemalan mountain-rose, among many other common names) is a species of flowering shrub in the Melastomataceae family. It is native to Central America, and is found in Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. It typically grows in montane forests, at elevations of 1,400–2,100 m.

Blakea guatemalensis is used for its medicinal properties as an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and diuretic. It is also used as an ornamental plant in gardens.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Blakea guatemalensis has small, white flowers with yellow centers. The seeds are small and black, and the seedlings are small and green.
Cultivation and Propagation
Blakea guatemalensis is a fast-growing, evergreen shrub that can reach up to 2 m (6.6 ft) in height. It prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soils. Propagation is best done by cuttings or division of the root ball. It is also possible to propagate from seed, although this is not as reliable.
