Description
Axinaea nitida (also called Shiny Axinaea, among many other common names) is a shrub species in the family Melastomataceae. It is a small to medium-sized shrub with simple, opposite leaves and small, white flowers. It is native to the Andes of Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, where it grows in humid montane forests at elevations of 1,000–2,500 m.

The flower of Axinaea nitida is a small, white flower with five petals and a yellow center. The seed is a small, black, round seed. The seedlings are small, green and have a single stem.

Axinaea nitida is a shrub native to the tropical forests of South America. It is an evergreen, woody shrub that grows in moist, shady areas. It is propagated by cuttings or division of the rootstock. It prefers moist, well-drained soil and partial shade. It is drought tolerant and can tolerate temperatures down to -5°C (23°F).
