Description
Lophocolea latistipula (also called Broad-Tipped Lophocolea, among many other common names) is a species of liverwort native to Europe, Asia, and North America. It is found in moist, shady places, often in association with mosses and other liverworts.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Lophocolea latistipula has small, yellow-green flowers. Its seeds are round and small, and its seedlings are small and green.
Cultivation and Propagation
Lophocolea latistipula is a small, perennial, evergreen liverwort that grows in moist, shady habitats. It is propagated by spores, which are released from the sporophyte in the spring. The spores can be collected and sown on a moist, sterile substrate. The substrate should be kept moist and in a shady location to encourage germination. Once the spores have germinated, the plants can be transplanted into individual pots filled with a mixture of peat and sand.
Where to Find Lophocolea latistipula
Lophocolea latistipula can be found in the Mediterranean region, in the western part of the Iberian Peninsula, and in the Balearic Islands.
