Description
Spigelia leiocarpa (also called 'smooth-fruit spigelia' and 'smooth-fruit spigelia', among many other common names) is a herbaceous perennial plant, typically growing up to 1 m in height. It is native to Central America and the Caribbean, and is found in tropical moist forests.
Cultivation and Propagation
Spigelia leiocarpa is a small to medium-sized shrub, growing up to 1.5 m tall. It is found in tropical and subtropical rainforests, from sea level up to 1,500 m. Propagation is by seed, which should be sown in a well-drained, sandy soil mix. Germination is usually rapid, and seedlings should be transplanted when they reach 10-15 cm in height.
