Description
Utricularia vitellina (also called the yellow bladderwort, among many other common names) is a species of aquatic carnivorous plant. It is native to tropical regions of the world, including Africa, India, and Southeast Asia, and prefers shallow, still water habitats such as ponds, marshes, and slow-moving streams.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Utricularia vitellina has small, white flowers with five petals and yellow anthers. The seeds are small, black and round. The seedlings have two cotyledons and the first true leaves are opposite and simple.
Cultivation and Propagation
Utricularia vitellina is a perennial aquatic plant that is best grown in moist, well-drained soil. It can be propagated by division or by seed. It is best to sow the seeds in a moist, sterile soil mix and keep the soil moist until germination occurs. Once the seedlings have emerged, they should be transplanted into individual containers and given plenty of light and water.
