Description
Clerodendrum buettneri (also called Blue Butterfly Bush, among many other common names) is a shrub or small tree native to tropical Africa and Asia. It has bright green, ovate leaves and produces clusters of fragrant, blue-violet flowers. It is found in tropical forests, woodlands, and savannas.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Clerodendrum buettneri has white, star-shaped flowers that are borne in clusters. Its seeds are small and black in color. The seedlings have small, narrow leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Clerodendrum buettneri can be propagated by seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in a cold frame in spring or autumn. Cuttings should be taken in spring or summer. Larger divisions can be planted out direct into their permanent positions, though it is best to pot up smaller divisions and grow them on in a cold frame until they are established.
