Description
Isoetes precocia (also called Precoce Isoetes, among many other common names) is a species of aquatic plant in the Isoetaceae family. It is native to Central and South America and grows in shallow, freshwater habitats. It is an evergreen plant that grows up to 1 meter tall and has small, white flowers.
Uses & Benefits
Isoetes precocia is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and parks. It is also used in landscaping and as a groundcover.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Isoetes precocia is small and white, with a yellow center. The seed is small and black, and the seedlings are small, green, and oval-shaped.
Cultivation and Propagation
Isoetes precocia is a fern that can be propagated from spores. Collect the spores from the underside of the fronds and sow them on a moist, sterile medium. Keep the medium moist and the spores should germinate in a few weeks. It can also be propagated from division, though this is more difficult and less successful.
