Description
Mittenothamnium evrardii (also called Mittenothamnium evrardii, among many other common names) is a species of liverwort in the family Mittenothamnaceae. It is a small, yellow-green plant with a thallus composed of a single layer of cells. It is native to the United States, Mexico, and Central America, where it grows in moist, shady habitats.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Mittenothamnium evrardii has small, yellow flowers and small, black seeds. The seedlings are small and have a single, narrow, lanceolate leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Mittenothamnium evrardii can be propagated by spores, which are released from the sporophyte. The spores can be collected and sown on a suitable substrate, such as a peat-based compost. The spores should be kept moist and in a warm, shaded area until they germinate. Once the spores have germinated, they can be transplanted into individual pots and grown on in a warm, humid environment. The plants should be kept moist and in a bright, indirect light.
