                        Description
                        
                            Ribes hudsonianum (also called 'Northern black currant', among many other common names) is a deciduous shrub native to North America. It has three-lobed leaves and small, yellow-green flowers. It is found in moist, shady forests and along streams.                        
                     
                                
                                    
                        Uses & Benefits
                        
                            Ribes hudsonianum is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and its berries can be used to make jams, jellies, and pies.                        
                     
                                
                                                    
                        Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
                        
                            Ribes hudsonianum has small, bell-shaped flowers that are usually pink or white in color. The seeds are small and black, and the seedlings are small and delicate.                        
                     
                                
                
                
                                    
                        Cultivation and Propagation
                        
                            Ribes hudsonianum can be propagated by seed or division. Seeds should be sown in spring in a cold frame or in a sheltered position outdoors. Division is best done in spring or autumn. Larger divisions can be planted out direct into their permanent positions, though it is best to pot up smaller divisions and grow them on in a cold frame until they are established.
