Description

Gnetum contractum (also called Contracted Gnetum, among many other common names) is a species of Gnetum native to Southeast Asia. It is a shrub or small tree growing to 10 m tall. The leaves are spirally arranged, lanceolate, 8–15 cm long and 2–3 cm broad. The flowers are inconspicuous, greenish, and the fruit is a red drupe containing a single seed.

Gnetum contractum is a tropical evergreen shrub native to South East Asia. It is easy to propagate from cuttings taken in spring or summer. Take a cutting of around 10 cm in length and remove the lower leaves. Dip the cutting in a rooting hormone and place in a pot filled with a well-draining potting mix. Place the pot in a warm, sheltered position and keep the soil moist. After a few weeks, the cutting should have rooted and can be transplanted into the garden.
