Description
Streptocarpus prolixus (also called Prolix Streptocarpus, among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant in the family Gesneriaceae. It is native to South Africa, and grows in rocky, grassy, and shrubby habitats.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Streptocarpus prolixus is a funnel-shaped, pale blue to violet-blue in color and has a yellow center. The seed is a small, black, round seed. The seedlings have a single pair of leaves and a white root system.
Cultivation and Propagation
Streptocarpus prolixus is an evergreen perennial with rosettes of oval, dark green leaves and clusters of small, funnel-shaped, white flowers in summer. It is best grown in a moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil in partial shade. Propagate by division in spring or autumn.
