Description
Columnea panamensis (also called Panama columnea, among many other common names) is a shrub or small tree that grows up to 15 feet tall. It is native to Central and South America, and is found in dry, rocky, open woods and thickets. Its leaves are alternate, simple, and ovate in shape, with a smooth margin and a pointed tip. The bark is gray and smooth.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Columnea panamensis has bright yellow flowers with red spots and a long, tubular shape. The seeds are small, black and round. The seedlings are small and green with long, thin stems.
Cultivation and Propagation
Columnea panamensis can be propagated by stem cuttings or by division of the rootstock. It prefers a warm, humid environment with plenty of light and regular watering. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer every two weeks during the growing season.
