Description
Columnea oxyphylla (also called sharp-leaved columnea, among many other common names) is a shrub or small tree that grows up to 15 feet tall. It is native to Central and South America, and is found in dry, rocky, open woods and thickets. Its leaves are alternate, simple, and ovate in shape, with a serrated margin and a pointed tip. The bark is gray and smooth.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Columnea oxyphylla has bright yellow flowers with red spots and a long, tubular shape. The seeds are small, black and round. The seedlings are small and green with long, thin stems.
Cultivation and Propagation
Columnea oxyphylla can be propagated by stem cuttings or by division of the rootstock. It prefers a warm, humid environment with plenty of light and regular watering. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer every two weeks during the growing season.
