Cultivation and Propagation

Vicia montbretii is a hardy annual that is easy to grow from seed. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Sow the seeds directly in the garden in early spring, or start them indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Plant the seedlings 12-18 inches apart. The plant will bloom in late spring or early summer and will self-seed if left to go to seed. Deadheading will help to prolong the blooming period.
