Cultivation and Propagation

Vicia lutea is a hardy annual that is easy to grow from seed. Sow the seeds in the spring, in a sunny spot, in well-drained soil. The seeds should be sown about 1/4 inch deep. The plants will grow to a height of about 18 inches and will produce yellow flowers in the summer. The plants should be thinned to about 8 inches apart. Deadheading the flowers will help to encourage more blooms. The plants can be propagated by division in the spring.

Where to Find Vicia lutea

Vicia lutea can be found in dry, sandy soils in the western United States, from California to Nebraska and east to Texas.
