Description
Acalypha benguelensis (also called Benguela copperleaf, among many other common names) is a small shrub native to South Africa. It is a small shrub, growing up to 1 m tall. It has large, glossy leaves and small, yellowish-brown flowers. It grows in moist, shady areas such as forests, woodlands, and riverbanks.

Acalypha benguelensis has small, greenish-brown flowers that produce small, black seeds. The seedlings are small and slender.
Cultivation and Propagation
Acalypha benguelensis can be propagated by division or seed. It is best grown in moist, acidic soils in partial shade. It is hardy to USDA Zone 4 and can tolerate temperatures down to -30°F (-34°C). It is drought tolerant once established.
