Description
Diospyros elephasii (also called Elephant Apple, among many other common names) is a small to medium-sized tree, growing up to 15 m tall. It is native to India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. It is found in deciduous forests, dry deciduous forests, moist deciduous forests, and semi-evergreen forests.
Cultivation and Propagation
Diospyros elephasii is a slow-growing, evergreen tree that can reach up to 10 m in height. It is best grown in full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil. Propagation is usually done by seed, but can also be done by cuttings. The seed should be sown in a well-draining medium and kept moist until germination occurs. Cuttings should be taken from semi-hardwood and treated with a rooting hormone before planting in a well-draining medium.
